DOMAIN THE CONDITIONING

DEFINITION:

The process of emphasizing, omitting, organizing, or presenting information in ways that influence interpretation, perception, and understanding.

FUNCTION:

Shapes meaning by directing attention toward certain aspects of reality while minimizing, excluding, or de-emphasizing others.

EXAMPLES:

News reporting angles
Statistical presentation
Historical interpretation
Political messaging
Advertising campaigns
Documentary editing
Headline construction

NOTES:

Selective framing does not necessarily require false information. Meaning can be influenced through the selection, arrangement, emphasis, timing, or omission of otherwise accurate information.

CONTROL TEXT OBSERVATION:

The way information is presented often influences perception as much as the information itself. Different frames can produce radically different interpretations of the same event.
