DOMAIN THE LANGUAGE
DEFINITION:
Language that obscures, disguises, reverses, distorts, or conceals meaning in order to influence perception, reduce clarity, or alter interpretation.
FUNCTION:
Separates words from direct reality by using terminology that masks, reframes, or redirects attention away from the underlying subject.
EXAMPLES:
- "Enhanced Interrogation" instead of torture
- "Collateral Damage" instead of civilian deaths
- "Negative Growth" instead of decline
- "Workforce Optimization" instead of layoffs
- "Peacekeeping Operation" instead of military intervention
- "Correctional Facility" instead of prison
