DEFINITION:

The selective allocation of awareness, focus, perception, cognitive resources, and conscious processing toward specific signals, symbols, ideas, experiences, narratives, objects, identities, or aspects of reality.

FUNCTION:

Transforms possibility into perception by determining which information enters awareness and which information remains ignored.

NOTES:

Attention is finite. Every act of attention simultaneously emphasizes certain signals while excluding others. What receives attention gains influence over perception, memory, and behavior.

Attention functions as a reality-selection mechanism that transforms an infinite field of possible information into a finite field of conscious experience.
